When you create a social marketing profile (Twitter, Facebook, etc.), the profile needs to be personal. It needs to look and act like there is a real person behind the computer. If all you are doing is trying to sell the entire time people will think of you more as spam than as a reliable source. Use reliable and accurate information in your profiles. A few times a week you can post links to your websites or try to sell something, but if you do it all the time everyday then people are going to stop paying attention to your profile. You do not want to be considered as a spammer by the people you are trying to sell to. Make your status updates have something to do with your life like current things that have happened to you, people you have met, the type of day you have had, your business work, even mundane things like the weather or what you had for dinner (be advised one of these every once in a while is fine, but don't be the person that does it with everything they do all the time).
The more of a general base of people you add the more people will respect you and believe you know what you are talking about so the more they will want to buy your product without you having to sell, sell, sell to them.
Good tip, I agree wholeheartedly. That is my philosophy exactly. I actually had a bad experience this week in which I was spammed and when it happened the spammer sent out DMs to everyone I was following and I think I lost about 20-30 followers bc of it. Do you have any tips on how to gain that credibility back?
ReplyDeleteTo gain your credibility back, maybe tweet about what happened to you and how you don't like spammers. Just once is enough. I would also just be more careful on who your followers are and if you see a spammer then unfollow them as soon as you can. If you are not the one that spams your followers then they will know that it is not you and not really your fault. There shouldn't be too much of a loss of credibility with them because there really is nothing you could've done about it. There are so many spammers out there that it is bound to happen sometimes. You cannot control what other people will do, just do not be one of the spammers.
